Grenada's annual events calendar kicks off with two signature nautical events in January: the Spice Island Bill Fish Tournament with exciting competitions and parties galore, and the Grenada Sailing Festival, the first of many events for fans of yachting.
Carnival - the country's most extravagant celebration - is always held the second weekend in August. It includes calypso and steel band competitions, all sorts of costumed revelry, a pageant and a grand finale "jump up" on the Tuesday.
The nation of Grenada, a hot destination for pristine reef and wreck diving these days, is a great choice for experienced and wanna-be divers as well as snorkelers. Ten well-regarded and regulated island scuba schools offer dive certification, resort courses (see sidebar) and certified professional guides for all levels of expertise as well as snorkeling expeditions. When ships sink, their star quality often goes way up. That is certainly true in Grenada and Carriacou where divers rave about the 20 different wrecks they can explore. Happily, the wrecks lie 20 to 120 feet in depth making them accessible to a wide range of abilities.
Lush mountain waterfalls, glorious beaches, tropical gardens and grand plantation homes are just some of the special locales that make Grenada the perfect wedding and honeymoon destination. Rainforest-capped mountains that drop to idyllic beaches, world-class diving, snorkeling and yachting, spas and a welcoming culture help make the island a favorite for romance-and one that many couples return to year after year.
Couples can head to a secluded island for a private beach picnic, or pilot an inflatable boat along the Caribbean coast.
Grenada is also a dream destination for eco-tourists and adventure-oriented clients. Hikers, bird-watchers, mountain bikers and kayak enthusiasts can revel in the nation's natural beauty and resources - including national parks, natural sanctuaries and wildlife preserves and other protected areas. Grenada's peerless natural beauty includes lush and mountainous interior wildlife and some breathtaking waterfalls.
Grenada ha so much to offer that it's perfect for your group!
